CSCI Safeguarding Adults Protocol

This protocol demonstrates CSCI’s commitment to working with other agencies to ensure that people within regulated services are appropriately safeguarded. It replaces the December 2003 NCSC adult protection protocol and has been formally agreed with the Association of Directors of Social Services (ADSS *1) and Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). The protocol has the support of the Department of Health.  Any regional or local agreements in place must be compatible with this national protocol.

From 26/03/2007 the ADDS is replaced by the launch of the ADASS (Association of Directors of Adult Social Services)

DOL Code of practice

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 provides a statutory framework for acting and making decisions on behalf of individuals who lack the mental capacity to do so for themselves. The Government has added new provisions to the Act: The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards which are due to be implemented in April 2009.These safeguards focus on some of the most vulnerable people in our society: those who for their own safety and in their own best interests need to be accommodated under care and treatment regimes that may have the effect of depriving them of their liberty, but who may lack the capacity to consent. As the deprivation of a person's liberty is a serious matter and should not happen unless it is absolutely necessary these safeguards have been created to ensure that any decision to deprive someone of their liberty is made following defined processes and in consultation with specific authorities. The Code of Practice to which a link is attached below, provides guidance and information for those implementing the deprivation of liberty safeguards.  Code of practice

Adult Safeguarding referrals go electronic

In an effort to provide a better service for everyone, we are consolidating best practice around the making of referrals. This will ensure that important information is managed effectively and in a timely fashion. Currently, referrals do on occasion go missing or fail to arrive at the right destination or with the right people. It is also becoming increasingly problematical to manage the volume of paper referrals that are being generated. As of 1 January 2008 all adult safeguarding referrals must be completed electronically. When making a referral, please complete the Adult Protection Referral Form and attach to your e-mail to: customer.first@soc serv.suffolkcc.gov .uk

If you are unable to access the Internet, please phone Customer First on 08456 023 023 and make your referral.
Please ensure that you are familiar with the process. In case of difficulty, contact Wendy Garrard on 07920 466336 or email wendy.garrard@socs erv.suffolkcc.gov. uk
